Enzo Ferrari souhaitait plus que tout construire les meilleures voitures de sport, ce qu'il fît avec succès durant quatre décennies. Pour célèbrer le quarantième anniversaire de sa marque, il mit donc en oeuvre la réalisation d'une automobile sans concession qui devait marquer l'évènement de la plus belle façon et s'imposer comme la référence absolue parmis les voitures de sport. Suite à un sale coup du destin, la F40 deviendra aussi le testament roulant du Commendatore…
